Barbara Cairns is a former teacher and retired elementary school principal. A Connecticut Yankee, she has also lived in Seattle, Washington; Labrador, Canada; Bamberg, Germany; and the Canal Zone, Panama. Cairns has taught geography and writing as a volunteer in local Florida schools, and is currently involved with monthly Wildlife Jeopardy programs at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. where she is a weekly museum docent. She keeps busy with Florida history presentations at various venues with her Cracker Cow, A Narrative of Florida History book. Her most recent publication is a picture book, the first in a series titled Gatsby's Grand Adventures. She is currently working on a middle grade novel set in Florida during the Civil War.
