Edwidge Danticat (1969) lived in Haiti with her aunt for the early years of her life. At age twelve, Danticat moved to New York to live with her parents. Danticat has a degree in French Literature from Barnard College and an MFA from Brown University. Danticat is proud of her Haitian heritage and her writing eloquently reflects this influence. Danticat's first novel, Eyes, Breath, Memory, was written as her thesis at Brown University. Danticat was a visiting professor of creative writing in the spring of 2000 at the University of Miami. Danticat currently lives in Miami with her husband and her daughter.
