Joanne Hyppolite was born in Haiti, but moved to Brookline, Massachusetts when she was 4-years-old. She found inspiration from her mother's stories of growing up in Haiti giving her great pride in her culture which is reflected in her books. She is currently working on her doctorate in Literature at the University of Miami.
