Robert Olen Butler (1945-) has a B.A. from Northwestern University and a M.A. in play writing from the University of Iowa. Butler served in the Vietnam War as an Army Intelligence Officer and Translator. Butler was a reporter and editor for the New York Times and editor-in-chief for the Energy User's News before turning to teaching. Butler has taught fiction writing at McNeese State University. He currently teaches fiction and screen writing at Florida State University.
